HOYLAKE, ENGLAND—It’s been a very nice first visit to Europe for David Hearn.
The native of Brantford, Ont., fired a 1-over 73 in the second round of the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool and his two-round total of 1-under 143 will keep him around for the final two rounds of his first major on this side of the Atlantic.
“I’m proud of myself,” he said. “I feel real happy where my game is at. I know I’m 11 back (of leader Rory McIlroy) but I’m as happy as you can be being 11 out of the lead.”
Hearn overcame a stretch of four bogeys in five holes around the turn and finished with back-to-back birdies.
“I really enjoy this type of golf — you get to hit a lot of shots and patience is the key and I’m pretty good at that,” he said.
